The production of the native antigen, Toxoplasma gondii (strain RH) is cultivated in Vero cells. Disrupted Toxoplasma ""ghosts"" are treated with detergent and further purified. The resulting antigen is suitable for the detection of IgG and IgM antibodies against Toxoplasma.

- Background
- Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that causes the disease toxoplasmosis. In developed countries, T. gondii is one of the most common parasites. An infection during pregnancy, known as congenital toxoplasmosis, may affect the child and, therefore, Toxoplasma is also part of the ToRCH screening panel.
