- Background
- Cytomegalovirus is a genus of viruses that belongs to the family of Herpesviridae. Currently eight species have been described in this genus, including human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV, Human Herpesvirus 5, HHV-5). CMV infection during pregnancy can cause severe subsequent damages for the unborn child including micro encephalitis, so CMV belongs to the ToRCH screening panel.
