- Background
- BTLA, also known as B- and T-lymphocyte attenuator isoform 1, is an inhibitory molecule which belongs to the Ig superfamily. It is a type 1 transmembrane glycoprotein in the CD28 family of T cell costimulatory molecules. This protein is a third inhibitory receptor on T lymphocytes with similarities to cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4) and programmed death 1(PD-1). Also, it is a ligand for tumor necrosis factor (receptor) superfamily, member 14 (TNFRSF14), also known as herpes virus entry mediator (HVEM). BTLA-HVEM complexes negatively regulate T-cell immune responses. Recombinant human BTLA, fused to His-tag at C-terminus, was expressed in insect cell and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
