    Assay Procedure

This competitive ELISA kit uses the microtiter plate format. The antigen is bound to the solid phase of the microtiter plate. The acylated standards, controls and samples and the solid phase bound analyte compete for a fixed number of antiserum binding sites. After the system is in equilibrium, free antigen and free antigen-antiserum complexes are removed by washing. The antibody bound to the solid phase is detected by an anti-rabbit IgG-peroxidase conjugate using TMB as a substrate. The reaction is monitored at 450 nm. Quantification of unknown samples is achieved by comparing their absorbance with a reference curve prepared with known standard concentrations.

    Restrictions
    For Research Use only
  • Precaution of Use
All reagents of this test kit derived from human or animal serum or plasma have been tested and confirmed negative for HIV, HbsAg and HCV. However, there is no test method that can offer complete assurance therefore all reagents, should be treated as potential biohazards in use and for disposal.

    Background
Serotonin is a monoamine neurotransmitter. Biochemically derived from tryptophan, serotonin is primarily found in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, platelets, and in the central nervous system (CNS) of animals including humans. It is a well-known contributor to feelings of well-being, therefore it is also known as a happiness hormone despite not being a hormone.
