- Background
- A-Raf, a proto-oncogene that encodes a 68 kDa serine/threonine-specific protein kinase, shows strong homology to c-Raf and v-Raf in the kinase region of the molecule. c-Raf appears to be uniformly and ubiquitously expressed, but A-Raf expression is much more variable. A-Raf is found at highest levels in urogenital and kidney tissues, with the lowest levels found in brain. Cell transformation by A-Raf has been shown to be independent of p21[ras], suggesting the possibility of an independent signal transduction pathway. This antibody is routinely tested by western blot analysis.
