Background
CD71 is a proliferation-associated homodimeric membrane glycoprotein consisting of two disulfide-bonded 95kD chains. CD71 is a type II membrane protein with short aminoterminal cytoplasmic domain which mediates internalization and recycling, a single transmembrane region, and a large extracellular transferrin-binding domain. CD71 contains N-linked and O-linked glycans, as well as palmitic acid covalently attached to cysteine residues close to the cytoplasmic face of the membrane.Synonyms: TfR1, Transferrin receptor protein 1, p90
