- Target
- DAOA (D-Amino Acid Oxidase Activator (DAOA))
- Alternative Name
- D-amino acid oxidase activator (DAOA Products)
- Background
- D-amino acid oxidase activator , LG72 , SG72,This gene encodes a protein that is an activator of the FAD-dependent enzyme D-amino acid oxidase, which degrades the gliotransmitter D-serine, a potent activator of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) type glutamate receptors. Polymorphisms in this gene have been implicated in susceptibility to schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder, possibly due to decreased levels of D-serine and decreased NMDA receptor functioning. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq]
