- Background
- Background: CC2D1A functions as a transcriptional repressor of FRE (five repressor element) DNA element. As a repressor of this element, CC2D1A represses serotonin-1A receptor and dopamine-D2 receptor gene expression and has been linked to nonsyndromic mental retardation and psychiatric illnesses. The DNA binding and repressor activities of CC2D1A are regulated by the calcium-calmodulin-dependent protein kinase.
