    Background
Background: SFRS18/SRrp130 (splicing factor arginine/serine-rich 18) is a putative alternative splicing factor. It was identified as a factor that interacts with pinin (Pnn/DRS/memA), a cell-adhesion and nuclear protein of corneal epithelial cells. SFRS18/SRrp130 bears multiple arginine/serine-rich repeats found among the SR-related family of pre-mRNA processing factors. SFRS18/SRrp130 and pinin co-localize and are distributed as nuclear specks that correspond to the pre-splicing machinery.
