- Background
- Background: RPL7 is a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit. Ribosomes are composed of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit that function to catalyze protein synthesis. RPL7 is a member of the L30P family of ribosomal proteins and can bind both DNA and RNA in vitro. RPL7 is a cytoplasmic protein implicated to play a regulatory role in translation. It has also been identified as an auto-antigen in patients with autoimmune diseases such as lupus erythematosus.
