- Background
- Background: Hemoglobin is tetrameric protein that binds iron in individual heme groups. These molecules are responsible for the binding and transport of oxygen in the blood and are the most abundant component of red blood cells. Fetal hemoglobin binds oxygen with a higher affinity than adult hemoglobin.
