- Background
- Background: RPL26 is a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit. Ribosomes are composed of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit that function to catalyze protein synthesis. RPL26 is a cytoplasmic protein that functions at the translational level to induce protein expression. RPL26 has been demonstrated to bind the 5' UTR of p53 mRNA in response to DNA damage. This interaction is described as one of many mechanisms that serve to increase p53 protein levels after DNA damage.
