    Background

Background: Catalyzes the terminal and only committed step in triacylglycerol synthesis by using diacylglycerol and fatty acyl CoA as substrates. In contrast to DGAT2 it is not essential for survival. May be involved in VLDL (very low density lipoprotein) assembly. In liver, plays a role in esterifying exogenous fatty acids to glycerol. Functions as the major acyl-CoA retinol acyltransferase (ARAT) in the skin, where it acts to maintain retinoid homeostasis and prevent retinoid toxicity leading to skin and hair disorders.

Aliases: ACAT related gene product 1 antibody, ACAT-related gene product 1 antibody, Acyl coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase related gene 1 antibody, Acyl-CoA retinol O-fatty-acyltransferase antibody, Acyl-CoA:diacylglycerol acyltransferase antibody, ARAT antibody, ARGP1 antibody, C75990 antibody, D15Ertd23e antibody, Dgat antibody, DGAT1 antibody, DGAT1_HUMAN antibody, Diacylglycerol O acyltransferase 1 antibody, Diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 1 antibody, DIAR7 antibody, Diglyceride acyltransferase antibody, EC 2.3.1.20 antibody, hCG_24006 antibody, MGC139064 antibody, Retinol O fatty acyltransferase antibody
