- Application Notes
- The antibody binds specifically to prion, a misfolded protein that has the ability to enter healthy organisms and cause other misfolding of other proteins into their prion form. This plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of certain neurodegenerative disorders such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), Gerstmann-Staussler syndrome (GSS) and bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). These disorders are characterised by an accumulation of prion proteins in the brain, which have a disrupted secondary structure.
