Application Note: Anti-Penicillinase Peroxidase conjugated antibody has been tested by dot blot and is suitable to be assayed against 1.0 μg of Penicillinase [Enterobacter cloacae] in a standard capture ELISA using ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis-[3-ethylbenthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid]) code # ABTS-100 as a substrate for 30 minutes at room temperature. A working dilution of 1:20,000 to 1:100,000 of the reconstitution concentration is suggested for this product.

- Background
- Background: Penicillinase is a specific type of β-lactamase, showing specificity for penicillin, again by hydrolyzing the beta-lactam ring. Molecular weights of the various penicillinases cluster around 50 kDa. Beta-lactamase provides antibiotic resistance by breaking the antibiotics' structure. These antibiotics all have a common element in their molecular structure: a four-atom ring known as a beta-lactam. Through hydrolysis, the lactamase enzyme breaks the β-lactam ring open, deactivating the molecule's antibacterial properties.
