- Background
- Flunixin meglumine is a member of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) used for pain relief (particularly colic), counteract the effects of trauma, bring down fever, and block the effects of endotoxins on tissue. Frequently used to treat medical colics though care must be exercised as it may prevent early recognition of surgical problems by covering up symptoms. Flunixin is useful as a medium duration analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug. Like other NSAIDs, it also has some anti-pyretic properties. It is used for visceral or musculoskeletal pain in horses.
