- Background
- ERp57, also known as GRP58, PDIA3, was cloned by three independent labs, all of which reported that the gene encodes a 505-amino acid protein that shares significant homology with the molecular chaperone protein disulfide isomerase (PDI). The ERp57 sequence was also shown to include a putative nuclear localization motif and an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) retention motif. Studies have shown that ERp57 functions together with calnexin and calreticulin as a molecular chaperone of glycoprotein biosynthesis within the ER.Synonyms: Disulfide isomerase ER-60, ER marker, ERP57, ERP60, GRP58, Protein Disulfide Isomerase, Protein disulfide-isomerase A3
