Background
Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) are organized into high-density postsynaptic clusters at the motor endplate that are critical for efficient synaptic transmission. The organization of AChRs is carried out by the 43 kDa cytoplasmic protein rapsyn. Studies have indicated that mutations which impair the activity of rapsyn can lead to the formation of congenital myasthenic syndrome (CMS). CMS is characterized by poor development of the postsynaptic region.Synonyms: 43 kDa postsynaptic protein, 43 kDa receptor-associated protein of the synapse, Acetylcholine receptor-associated 43 kDa protein, RAPsyn, RING finger protein 205
