Elevated AFP concentrations in adult plasma may be an early marker of hepatocellular carcinoma or teratoblastoma, while high concentrations in amniotic fluid may indicate severe congenital defects of a fetus.Synonyms: Alpha-1-fetoprotein, Alpha-fetoglobulin, HPAFP
