- Background
- Netrin-4 is a 628 amino acid laminin-related secreted protein that promotes neurite elongation at low concentrations but inhibits neurite extension at high concentrations. Recent evidence suggest that Netrin family members act as regulators of both neuronal and vascular growth and are implicated in controling epithelial cell branching morphogenesis in the pancreas, breast and lung. Netrin-4 inhibits proliferation of a variety of human tumor cells. Netrin-4 also induces proliferation, migration, adhesion, tube formation and survival of human lymphatic endothelial cells and seems to function as a lymphangiogenic factor contributing to tumor dissemination.
