ACES is a zwitterionic buffer. A saturated solution contains 0.22 M at 0°C. The buffer substance is used for the uncoupled electron transport in chloroplast lamellae. ACES binds Cu2+, but not significantly Mg2+, Ca2+ or Mn2+.
