    Background
    Thyroid-stimulating hormone is a peptide hormone synthesized and secreted by thyrotrope cells in the anterior pituitary gland, which regulates the endocrine function of the thyroid gland. The beta subunit is unique to TSH, and therefore determines its receptor specificity.
