Background
Bile Acid Receptor NR1H4 is a receptor for bile acids such as chenodeoxycholic acid, lithocholic acid and deoxycholic acid. It represses the transcription of the cholesterol 7 alpha hydroxylase gene and activates the intestinal bile acid binding protein. The NR1H4 gene encodes a protein that has a central role in lipid homeostasis and also regulates carbohydrate metabolism.Synonyms: BAR, Bile acid receptor, Farnesoid X-activated receptor, Farnesol receptor HRR-1, HRR1, Nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group H member 4, RIP14, Retinoid X receptor-interacting protein 14
