Application
- Flow Cytometry (FACS), Western Blotting (WB), Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin-embedded Sections) (IHC (p)), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Immunohistochemistry (Frozen Sections) (IHC (fro))
- Specificity
- This antibody recognises CD44, a 90 kDa type I transmembrane protein which is otherwise known as HCAM or CD44s. Various isoforms of CD44 exist. The 90 kDa standard form, recognised by this antibody, is expressed on leucocytes, erythrocytes, white matter of the brain and some epithelial cells of the breast and small intestine. Antibodies produced by clone 156-3C11 recognise epitope 3, which is a protease resistant epitope on the CD44 Molecule.

- Application Notes
-
Flow Cytometry: Use 10 μL of 1/50-1/100 diluted CD44 antibody to label 1x10^6 cells in 100μL. Immunohistochemistry on Frozen and Paraffin Sections: 1/100. This product requires antigen retrieval using heat treatment prior to staining of paraffinsections (Sodium citrate buffer pH 6.0 is recommended for this purpose). Recommneded Positive Control: Human tonsil. Immunoprecipitation. Western Blot: Detects a band of approximately 80 kDa in HeLa cell lysates.
Other applications not tested.

- Background
- CD44 is a receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA) and is involved in cell-cell interactions, cell adhesion and migration. CD44 also participates in a wide variety of cellular functions including lymphocyte activation, recirculation and homing. CD44 expression may be up-regulated upon some carcinomas, and it has been speculated that this may be related to metastatic potential.Synonyms: CDw44, ECMR-III, Epican, Extracellular matrix receptor III, GP90 lymphocyte homing/adhesion receptor, HUTCH-I, Heparan sulfate proteoglycan, Hermes antigen, Hyaluronate receptor, LHR, MDU2, MDU3, MIC4, PGP-1, Phagocytic glycoprotein 1
